Don’t get us wrong, we love social media, but sometimes we need to take a step away and live real life. It is important for us to remember, that we are not designed to consume thousands of people’s lives everyday. Online comparison is very real and very dangerous for our mental health.
Studies show that the average person spends about 2.5 hours on social media everyday. The numbers just keep increasing for individuals that work in social too.
Signs You May Need a Break:
Your screen time is high. Endless scrolling = a burnout is brewing. Reclaim that time for rest or creativity.
It’s messing with your mood. Social comparison and negative news can chip away at your mental health without realizing it. Your energy and mood is valuable! Don’t let the algorithm decide how you feel everyday.
You’re losing your focus IRL. Our attention spans have significantly changed due to social media usage. People don’t tend to think as deeply anymore, and find themselves having a hard time getting a task done without getting distracted by their phone. Studies show that people tend to switch tasks every which is due to shortened attention span.
You’re not enjoying it anymore. Even creatives need time off to clear their minds and find new inspiration. No content, no pressure. If posting feels like a chore, step back and ask why. If your consuming social, and you find yourself endlessly scrolling and feeling drained and down, that’s your cue to log off.
We love social media, but boundaries = longevity.
