4 Ways We Can Spread Positivity on Social Media

Social Media in 2026: Why I Still Believe It Can Be a Force for Good
I’ve been on social media since 2013. Back then, I joined mostly to stay connected with family and friends, and scroll through whatever entertaining videos were trending. At the time, Instagram didn’t even have Stories or Reels, DMs weren’t what they are now, and Vine was still alive (RIP).
Fast forward to today: social media isn’t just something I casually use, it’s literally in my job title. Here at Clout Social Co., I work as a Social Media Manager, building strategies, creating content, and helping brands show up online in meaningful ways. Over the last decade, both social media and the way I interact with it have completely evolved.
It’s no secret that social platforms get a lot of criticism, and honestly, much of it is valid at some times. But even in 2026, I still believe social media holds real value when used intentionally. Here are a few reasons why I think it continues to be a powerful tool for good.
1. Community & Connection
One of the strongest aspects of social media is its ability to bring people together. Whether it’s sharing hobbies, interests, career paths, and or ideas, online communities provide support systems, friendships, and a sense of being seen and understood. For example, I am an avid member of BookTok as a personal hobby of mine, and also part of marketing and social media manager groups online that aligns with my job. These groups help me connect to even more people in my field, and share hobbies with me, that makes social media a lot more fun and interactive.
2. Learning in Real Time
Social media has become one of the most accessible learning tools we have. From quick tutorials and career advice to world news and creative inspiration, information is constantly at our fingertips. Platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram have essentially turned into our go-to search engines, places where people go first to learn, not just to scroll.
3. Career Growth & Business Opportunities
Entire industries now exist because of social media, (like this agency). Roles like content creator, social strategist, and community manager are no longer niche, they’re legitimate career paths. Beyond jobs, social has also become a major growth channel for small businesses, freelancers, and entrepreneurs. It’s one of the few spaces where a single post can still change someone’s entire trajectory.
4. Awareness, Advocacy & Impact
Social media continues to play a huge role in activism and social awareness. It gives people a platform to share stories, highlight injustices, and mobilize communities. While not all online activism leads to real-world change, it undeniably increases visibility, education, and collective dialogue around important issues.
Final Thoughts
Social media isn’t perfect, and it probably never will be. But in 2026, I still believe it’s what you make of it. When used with intention, boundaries, and purpose, it can be a space for growth, connection, creativity, and opportunity. It’s not just about going viral or gaining followers. It’s about how we show up, what we contribute, and how we use these platforms to build something meaningful.
